Ardis
Cavin has a Master's degree in voice from Indiana
University. She has performed extensively in
concert, opera and musical comedy. She was the
recipient of the American Federation of Music Club's
annual award for outstanding musical performance in
Washington, D.C., and was also the International
Platform Association's first prizewinner.
She has performed at Lincoln Center in the Hecksher
Oval and the Donnell Music Library in New York
City. Channel 13 has featured her in a special
entitled "Ballads from Britain" and she
was seen on Cable TV in a program designed for
children. She has made numerous appearances in
schools, churches and civic organizations in the
Tri-State area.
Afterward, she performed with the South Dakota State
Marching Band. "There was not another
harp in 500 miles," she noted.
The big harp stayed in South Dakota when Cavin came
East. Fifteen years later she was living in
Washington D.C. where one day she found a much
smaller harp, an Irish harp, sitting on a
veranda. It was about to be sold.
Bidding against antique dealers and interior
decorators, Cavin won and took home the harp.
She teaches harp and voice in her Englewood studio.
